2022 SECRET DOOR "Caldwell Vineyard" Coombsville-Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
There's history here with Donald Patz and John Caldwell. John sold Patz & Hall the very first Chardonnay grapes in 1988. Coming full circle, now with Cabernet Sauvignon for SECRET DOOR this exciting wine from the Coombsville area is nothing short of stunning.
It's a great area for Cabernet Sauvignon. Coombsville is east of the City of Napa and in some ways displays like Stags Leap District - a cooler region with plenty of days still warm enough to fully ripen Cabernet Sauvignon. John Caldwell was a pioneer in Coombsville - probably THE pioneer. His search for a distinctive flavor signal from his vineyard through multiple (often exotic) clones of Cabernet Sauvignon sets this vineyard apart.
There's power. There's dramatic aromas. There's underpinning acidity and tannin in harmony. Of course, it could be a multi-decade wine but for you it doesn't have to be.
