Alder Springs Vineyard - Spirit Rock Block

This is the core of this remote and extreme vineyard site in northern Mendocino County. Hard to imagine how rugged the landscape is in this part of Mendocino County without visiting. 

Syrah - the great grape of the Rhône Valley in France. In Northern Mendocino County it reverts to type, power with restraint, deep floral aromas tinged with smokey/bacony notes and balanced but serious tannin for aging. The 2022 vintage was marked by two severe frosts early in the growing cycle and it reduced the crop to a fraction of a normal year. We got less than half of what we produced in 2019 and 2021. It is a wine for the ages. It's beautiful now but has such an amazing life ahead. We rarely make this comparison but this time 2022 - François' techniques and the low yields, high quality of the grapes produced something very reminiscent of a top Côte-Rôtie from France. 

100% Syrah * aged in 50% new small French Oak barrels
